A quick and easy read about 14 year old Nikki’s take on her life as she enters 8th grade at an exclusive school. She feels like an outsider that can not compare to those peers surrounding her, thus, she is a dork. Between the insights of Nikki and her illustrations, Dork Diaries was a delight to read. Most of the entries, written on lined paper, included an illustration of that day’s angst. These illustrations added to seriousness and humor of the story. I really liked the illustrations as they were very appealing. I enjoyed the graphic novel approach. The delight of the story was reading how Nikki discovers, for herself, that it is better to embrace who she is rather than try to be what she thinks others find appealing. Nikki was a fun and captivating girl for whom brought me back to my school days and views on my parents. ha!
Dork Diaries held a high appeal with my 10 year old daughter. I think my 12 year old daughter may like the story as well.
Dork Diaries was a very entertaining read.
