it was amazing

This was an amazing book. Have tissues close by, there are several places that you will need them. I couldn't put this book down - it was so compelling. I've heard about this abuse and mistreatment of women in some muslim countries but had never fully thought about why and how. The author does a great job immersing you into the lives of the characters. The one part of the book that struck me really hard was when one of the main characters realizes for the first time (late in her life) what it felt like to be loved. Throughout her entire life up to this point...not a single person cared about her...not a parent, a sibling, a friend, a spouse, a child....she lived an emotionally numb life and had never experienced this feeling before. It was such a powerful moment in the book for me. I highly reccommend reading this book! I liked it even more than his first book Kite Runner.
