Dorothy Parker is one of the wittiest writers I've ever read. Others are funnier, others more caustic, but she provides this balance that makes her unique and better than the vast majority of authors that write similarly. Most people seem to view her as a sort of female Oscar Wilde - that is, a verifiable quote machine. But, there's much more to her than that. Her short stories are where it's at, especially "Big Blonde." They're not as comic as you might think, but nevertheless good. Perfect spring Sunday afternoon reading, which means the time is ripe. I'm not as fond of the included poetry, which got old for me, but there's more than enough in this huge collection to satisfy a number of Parker tastes.
