It would be pedantic and superfluous to review a classic such as this. Suffice it to say that (a) Steinbeck's novel, written nearly 70 years ago, is still highly relevant to a society that has not managed to eradicate greed and exploitation; (b) Steinbeck's ear for convincing "Okie" dialog is amazing; (c) although slow-paced, the story holds the reader's attention consistently all the way through the book's final, unforgettable image.
