On her fifteenth birthday, Shannon has everything: a loving mother and father, Zack's admiration, and a champion horse that will bring her her dream of collegiate riding and the Olympics. Her future is filled with promise. But her father's dark moods from his time in Vietnam have returned, and Shannon cannot understand why he pushes his family away. Then comes the night her mother opens the door to her father's study and begins to scream. This young adult book explores the issue of suicide and its effect on a family. Though it has compelling themes, the writing is sometimes stilted and preachy.
