The Happy Prince and The Nightingale and the Rose, both contained in this book, are two of the most devastating and beautiful fairy tales I've ever read. Both reduced me to tears, and while I might not share Mr Wilde's views on charity consuming itself I will certainly cherish these stories.

The edition I read also contained the collection "A House of Pomegranates" - less successful stories for me. All worth a read, however.
