I'm the type of adult that avoids scary or creepy books. I don't enjoy to be scared and I'd never willingly pick up a book knowing that is its purpose. I could see how Coraline could definitely creep out some kids. Gaiman is great at making the weird creepy. Throughout the book there are hints that something could happen...something bad. Gaiman is so subtle with these hints. It is really well done. Sure, some of it was predictable, but since this is a spooky book the predictability was more comforting than annoying.
