Although I’ve read this series before, it has been many years. This time I looked beyond the story of Leah and her family and the romance between her and Jonas and saw the deeper meaning of the Amish life. A lot of it left me grappling for understanding though, on how things could be called right and the truth from a supposedly very strict “Christian” people. The flaws of this “religion” were so clearly there and portrayed by various aspects of various characters. I couldn’t help but feel for them, if only they could all find the real truth and be set free. I didn’t expect it to take 5 books to say all that was said although quite a few years are covered. Some of the books in the series were better than others. I learned a lot from Leah’s steadfast patience, her trust in God despite many difficult things and in embracing the path He put before her.
