I'm still thinking about this book... although it's a novel written in verse and therefore a quick read, the auther deliberately picks words, phrases, and ideas that seem simple at first but house layers of complexity.

Matt is a Vietnamese 7th grader during the Vietnam War, adopted by American parents when his birth mother gave him up so he could have a better life. Matt struggles with his horrific dreams of Vietnam, remembering his old family, and struggling to "fit in" with his new family, in his new school and on his baseball team. Learning to accept himself, Matt finds a help group for veterans and through a series of trying circumstances, learns the power of forgiving himself, accepting love and understanding others' experiences, too.

I would recommend this book for mature 13-14 year olds and up, as well as for adults.
