A dark and foreboding tale of terrorism, anarchists and the resulting fallout from their actions.

Whilst this may be set over a hundred years ago, it resonates strongly today, with a new "enemy" within of extremists lurking around every corner, or so the media tell me from time to time.

The context of society may hav echanged, but the passions and beliefs of people seem to pass in cycles.

My edition had a particularly interesting introduction by Conrad, written 13 years after it's original publication, where he talks of the vilification he received for tackling such a subject matter.

The story twists and turns through flashbacks and many unpleasant characters, crashing through the norms of that society and making for a very engaging story.
