** spoiler alert ** The saga up on the Diamond V continues. Dianne is waiting for Cole to come back from Kansas from working with his father for a year. The time for him to return has come and gone and Dianne wonders if he is dead because of the dangers with crossing the plains or if he has found another to love. Cole's wagon train is attacted by indians. He is shot in the head with a gun and has two arrows in his chest, bu the Sioux indains have seen to keeping him alive, but not lovingly. He starts to heal but knows he must escape and does only to almost die again with shelter and food. The Blackfoot indians find him and bring him back from close to death and want to trade him for another indian man the soldiers have. Take's Many Horses' saves Cole not because he wants to but because he knows how much dianne loves cole and doesn't want to cause her any more loss even though he loves her too. Uncle Bram is attacked by a grizzly and doesn't make it even with the help of the southern doctor who is prejudice against everyone in the house but whites. Faith and Malichi the freed blacks from the wagon train find their way to the Diamond V after hardship with the mining and robbery. Faith is loosing faith because of her loss of 3 babies. This is an answer to Dianne's prayers because Koko is too sick to care for her new daughter Susannah because of pnemonia and Faith helps out with the nourishment. Trenton makes his way back to the ranch to stay even with all his history and baggage. Cole and Dianne marry and have a son Lucas which the southern doctor helps to deliver. Then there is an outbreak of small pox that Takes Many HOrses' brought with him. He survives but his buddies don't. After healing he leaves saying he won't return but thanks Dianne for her faith that she shared with him. More and more settlers are coming to settle along with ranchers and sheep herders. The indians are forced to go to reservations or face death which only makes them more hostile toward the settlers. Danger is in the air. The diamond V now has a blacksmith and a reverand.
