I'm not sure if this book was intended for adults or precocious children. The clever references to famous philosophers, physicists, and horror writers in the names of people and places would probably not be picked up on by most kids (well, American kids). His style here reminded me immediately of Douglas Adams. The footnotes were a bit annoying, but thankfully they grew fewer as the novel progressed. I laughed out loud in some places, and thoroughly enjoyed it--in fact, I couldn't put it down! Great characters (loved Samuel and Maria), interesting plot, filled with humor. A fun read and highly recommended!

Krista the Krazy Kataloguer Haven't read that one, though it's on my list. Perhaps I should read that one next...

Miriam I really felt that this was a simplified version of Good Omens, with the theological and moral ambiguities taken out and the cast of characters reduced. If you found the humor here to your taste you'd definitely enjoy Good Omens.
