I rarely find books that bring out the kid in me, but everything I've read by Pullman manages to do that. Despite the fact that this book is merely a short story, Pullman manages to tie it in with His Dark Materials in a mysterious and tantalizing way. Included are a map, an excerpt from a journal, a postcard, and advertisement for a cruise liner. Each of these items provides a glimpse into a new adventure for Lyra, which I can only hope is printed in the near future. I suspect that this journey will be in his purported Book of Dust, the sixth installment of his brilliant alternate universe. Pullman describes the book as "big," and I can't wait to read it.
