P.D. James is brilliant, and this book is good, but it should have been better. The setting is close enough to reality that the leaps of credulity she asks of us are harder to take than if the setting had been an alien planet or far into the future. There's also a vein of sexism running throughout which goes unexamined, and is therefore surprising and upsetting.

I think this would make fine airport reading, but it's not something I'll reread.
