WOW. I'm still a little sad after the ending, but this book is engrossing. The movie version doesn't do Ellen or Archer justice. You have stiff, repressed New York society and the people that would like to challenge its conventions, but never really do. It's a society full of hypocrites, longings, loveless marriages, affairs, financial ruin and the all-too-hilarious dislike of the 'unpleasant.'
