it was amazing

** spoiler alert ** ‘Requiem For a Dream’ is disturbing. And I can’t explain why exactly – I mean some of it has to do with all the shit that happens but some of it has to do with how much the emotions of the characters reflect in you as you read it. I’m not saying I was all ‘yes, heroin is THE BEST, I want to inject heroin every day of my life!’ – its not like that. It’s something different, more fundamental. I’ll just say that as I was reading the first part of the book, I was thinking ‘this is my favorite book EVER, I love this book, I love HOW MUCH FUN IT IS’ and then with the last thirty pages, as everyone falls down that steep decline I was just dumbstruck and horrified and unable to put it down but at the same time wanting to. It’s like a simulated addiction – reading that book. That’s the true genius of it.
