Craig Thompson has had a painful childhood, and an equally awkward high school experience thus far. He has never felt as though he’s fit in, from the time he was a child and watched helplessly as his brother was thrown into a storage closet to sleep for the night. In Blankets, a graphic novel, he reflects on all of the events leading up to high school that has made him the way he is – from his mother’s fundamentalist standpoint, to sharing the bed with his younger brother, to an emotionally traumatic experience with a babysitter.

Despite these events, Craig seems to find himself after meeting Raina at a religious camp. After visiting her, he realizes that misfits are popular in other areas. Blankets is the story of a first love, blended with the childhood experiences that have made Craig the young man that he is.
