A novel that I certainly would have no problem gushing about. To have kept this little beauty dammed up for months would have killed me, but admist the "persecution" Hurston sure as heck pulled it off.

But of course the title in itself rose questions inside when I first spotted it. "Their eyes" seem to be a little humanist, but as you progress into the story, it's not that way at all. Hurston was finding a way to describe God's might in nature, and all we can do is clutch to each other and watch him carry out what cleansing needs to be done. No 'ka-pow' in the middle of no where could have come up with a complex weather schedule like we have. That is planned.

The only thing I fought with Hurston over was the fact she killed Tea Cake off. That always sticks in my craw when in an author, one whose work I love, murders a beloved character. Especially the charming ones.
