This is my first book by Jeanne Kalogridis and I quickly had to find more of them. I've read a lot of historical fiction set in Tudor England so it was fascinated to read something from "the other side of the pond". I didn't know a lot about Catherine Medici before I began which was good as the author took a lot of license with her character and history in general. However the story was fascinating. The characters were multifaceted people who made difficult moral decisions. It was an interesting take on what you might do to retain power, to retain love. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed any of the Philippa Gregory books.
