Read in January, 1993

It's funny how things stick in your head.

I remember reading this and thinking "These stories are supposed to be erotic? Am I really supposed to be turned on by loving descriptions of some guy clipping his toenails in a certain shape, or another one cleansing out his colon? Really?"

Then I got older, and realized that people are far more fucked up than the folk Vargas Llosa wrote about.

K. I love this review! You almost made me change my rating from two to three stars, but not quite. It's true, people are far more fucked up than his characters, but that alone doesn't warm me to the sexual politics of this book.

Virginia I had to give it three stars because it was well written. Plus, it stuck in my head.

I totally agree about the sexual politics of the book. Not something I can support.

Michael I agree. Well written, but two stars from me too. Enjoyed your review and comments.
