I've finished the book and it was fascinating--I hadn't realized that what's now known as Afghanistan has been attacked so many times and that the country and its inhabitants have always repelled the invaders or, in Alexander's case, "won" by making peace.

The Afghan Campaign also made me think about what it must have been like to have been a solider thousands of years ago. (Not. fun.) It also made me even more interested in Afghanistan itself (it seems like it is such a beautiful country but come winter, wow! Talk about harsh weather!) as well as its culture. ]]>
