TCL Call Number: F Hosseini
Diana's rating: 5 stars

Hosseini takes us from the early 1950's to the present in Afghanistan, narrating through several different characters from all walks of life.
He begins with a very poor family that makes a heart-breaking choice in order to survive, tearing apart two people who are as close as can be. You read the rest of the book wondering if they will ever be reunited, but that's not the only thing that keeps you reading: he weaves more and more characters through in a network of relationships, many of them familial or nearly so. The best and worst in humanity are illuminated, and if you don't cry while reading this, you will at least get a lump in your throat and will likely soon call your brother/sister/mother/father.
