How the Vietnam war affected the refugees who came to the United States is the tie that binds these stories. Also, they are set in Louisiana (mostly Lake Charles). The range of stories is interesting because it captures a wide range of impacts depending on various circumstances. The stories also display the interactions between the cultural values of U.S. and Vietnam.
