I confess: I used to feed the raccoons when I lived outside Chicago. They'd come over to our deck and and I'd give them peanuts, bread, pork skins and Froot Loops. They loved the meals I provided, espy the Froot Loops. Then they'd come back with their babies each spring. Such curious babies, such smart ones. JR and I had nicknames for them, Ricky Jr. was one of them. I'll never forget the night one little raccoon scratched JR and we went to the hospital. By the time we were back home, I was laughing .... despite th $50 to $75 ER fee. ..... Hence, my interest in Rascal, a true story of a little boy's love for a sweet little raccoon named Rascal. A very heartwarming book for adults and children alike. The writing isn't the greatest, but the story is heartfelt.
