By the end of this book I wanted to whack Sunshine upside the head for her neurotic whining. I also found McKinley's writing style, with the constant asides and digressions, a barrier to really sinking into the narrative.

629344 Oh no! You're my second friend here to not like this book in only a week. I will have to stop recommending it to people.

811208 Elizabeth, I know from your review that you are a fan of McKinley. Maybe it was my lack of familiarity with her previous work that made this read less enjoyable for me. I liked the concept of the tale, just not the execution.

629344 She's big on the strange tangents in the middle of other ideas, which you found so annoying, so I wouldn't recommend her other books. I find the style charming and that seems to make the difference between love and indifference with her readers.
