The first half? There's a gem of a romantic story, richly written. I enjoyed chuckling at the genre archetypes. I didn't exactly chuckle at the author's obsession with rape fantasy. (Or, excuse me, to quote another reviewer, the "I was mere inches away from being raped but my strapping young husband has saved me AGAIN and now we shall have wild sex in a haystack" fantasy.)

Then... wellll... there's nothing like rounding page 400/800 just in time for a homophobic streak a mile wide to thicken the plot. By which I mean completely take over the book with yet more rape drama. Evil gay rape drama, don't ya know. And the ending, the ending! My eyes! I'm blinded by gender norms! Oook, I think I've had my share of wallowing in bad romance. Time to read a real book.
