When the very first line is about a cat that has been abandoned, you know that it will probably not be the most uplifting of books. This one is sad, emotionally charged. And yet, there is love and hope despite it all.
Written in very short chapters and with simple vocabulary, it is really quite a complex storyline. Set in the bayou, it focuses on a hound dog, a calico cat and two kittens. But interwoven into it is a snake that has been trapped for 1000 years, a cruel hunter, and a love story as well.
