I loved the first half, so gentle and the characters lives and how they live being so warm ... the forest and the river and all ... but the Toad half is kind of dated and rather moralistic. I want to know what kind of animals the jailers and the washerwoman were ... All this stuff about the weasels in Toad Hall was a bit gung-ho, boy's own stuff. But I really *loved* about half of the book.
