Susannah Cahalan is a promising young reporter for the New York Post, but when she wakes up in the hospital strapped to a bed and labeled as a flight risk, she has idea how she got there. For one month in 2009, Cahalan was mentally unstable and physically ill. Although she has few memories of that time, Cahalan used her journalistic skills and penned a stunning memoir of her illness. Her story is pieced together from hospital security footage, medical records and interviews with her caregivers and family, but the narrative never lags and her harrowing and almost unimaginable illness is stunningly portrayed in this book. Although this is a nonfiction book, the fast pace of the writing and the author's brutal honesty makes it read more like the latest medical thriller.
