I always enjoy Richard Russo's writing - especially his use of descriptive language which occasionally blows me away. The story here is not as good as Empire Falls but one scene in particular - the rehearsal dinner - was both hilarious and heart-breaking. The main character is a son, husband, father, professor who clearly demonstrates that we never know ourselves in the same way or as well as others do.
