it was amazing

This book I bought for my daughter many years ago and only read it myself this year. A wonderfully poignant story of a child's life in war torn Sarajevo in the early 1990's when Zlata was only 11 years old.I was reminded of that war and the terrible pictures we received on our news bulletins, however this diary show the real side of life during such a war, and how the ordinary people were affected and forced into a state of poverty, hunger, with their schools closing, and deprived of the basic essentials such as electricity, and water. This diary keeps Zlata grounded and it touches us in a way that no news can. She tries to continue a 'normal' life, continuing to read and play piano.
Touching read.
