There are charming and interesting bits, and it moved well, but on the whole it wasn't especially mesmerizing or unique, and I'm never a fan of powers that come out of nowhere and seem both overly extensive and under-explained. HOWEVER, I feel the need to note that if this is your first Stiefvater and you were also underwhelmed, don't give up on her. Her more recent books (Scorpio Races, Raven Boys) are worlds away from this one in both depth and style, and seriously some of the best I've ever read. Get thee to those instead.
