A memoir that is maybe an American/Irish version of Angela's Ashes. Not quite as poverty-stricken, but with an even more drunken father than Frank Court's with a vicious streak to boot. The author relives his childhood in brutal detail, still able to find good moments in his life outside of the home. Amazing anyone can rise above this grim of a beginning, let alone write about it subjectively and with a touch of humor.
