I didn't like this as much as I hoped to. I couldn't help mentally holding it up to other graphic memoirs I really love (Blankets, Maus, Palestine) and it just came up short. I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it, but for me it got more mileage from the specialness of its story (growing up female in Iran during the Revolution...how could that not seem gripping and important?) and maybe a little less from its art.
