Not the best one, but my favorite so far. It was interesting to me how much Phillipa Gordon reminded me of Cynthia Kirkpatrick in Wives and Daughters. I didn't much care for Phillipa, though. I felt like this story wrapped up a little too nicely and did not at all care for the worn-out reference that goes something like "in novels things are easy, but in real life..." which I have always detested and found counterproductive. When I'm reading, I don't like to be reminded that I'm reading, and this attempt to make things real just wrecks the whole thing. I like this one best not for its merit, but by its familiarity. The incidents in the book relate to me much better than the first two did. It's that relationship that causes me to like it. The book is fine, but really it's not as good as the first or even the second.
