I've wanted to read this book for ages, but it intimidated me. I went to Iceland last fall and decided to take the plunge and read it. I started before we went but only got about 100 pages into the book. After I'd been there I couldn't get enough of this book. Having been to Iceland makes this book much more accessible, however the writing style is already accessible. I guess I just needed to get over my idea that this would be difficult to read as it was written so long ago. The translations are terrific and very approachable. The themes of love, revenge, violence, family are universal, and though somewhat embellished this is mostly real history. I found the Sagas to be very captivating in the end.
