This is an excellent book to bring you from the basics of patchwork and quilting to gaining competence. The instructions are clear with plenty of picures, the details are just the right ones for a beginning quilter, and there is a comprehensive detailing of the equipment you need, how to do basic techniques, and what each bit of quilting is about. It covers all the traditional methods, including piecing blocks, English patchwork, quilt as you go, foundation piecing, applique and embellishing. Projects are for both hand & machine quilting and piecing. If you only want one quilting book, this would be a great starting place. The only thing missing is a compendium of different patchwork block patterns.
