really liked it
bookshelves: fiction-historical, theme-freedom

This is a really enjoyable historical fiction novel about one young woman and her family, growing up in South during the Civil War. I'm not a huge history buff, but this was really enjoyable, and a new perspective on that period of time. Many of the places, names, etc. are factual, and the author delineates fact vs. fiction in an author's note. I had no idea that there was a single Southern family (the McLeans) whose plantation hosted the first battle and whose later home hosted the surrender treaty signing between North and South Generals.
