bookshelves: eastern-europe
Recommended for: Russophiles in the mood for a depressing but good book
Read in March, 2007

I wondered if I would like a serious Amis novel, as opposed to his usual acerbic works, and I did. He captured all of the things to love and hate about Eastern Europe, as well as the reasons behind them, and the characters were richly drawn.

As always, the author's command of the English language had me reaching for my dictionary, a feat very few postmodern novelists accomplish.
