did not like it
bookshelves: picture-books

I wanted to like this book about noises a lot more than I did. Giacobbe's art was effective in places, but the depiction of this New York-sized city was disturbing in its shortcomings. For example, every person drawn in this book, when their eye color was shown, had blue eyes. There were only two people in the whole city of non-white ethnicity, and they were portrayed as tough construction workers. Some of the rhymes were forced or awkward, such as "strutting" with "shortcutting."
