This novel meanders and jumps through time, which was confusing at times, but I really like O'Neill's writing style. He's prone, perhaps, to a few too many epiphanies per page, but overall the novel has a quiet style. But what is this novel about? I'm hard pressed to say, though I might say, first, cricket, then immigration, and also relationships. It's been called a post-9/11 novel (how ironic that I finished it on 9/11), but I don't think it focuses on that. It just happens to be set then. 9/11 doesn't seem crucial to the "plot" of the novel, though it does provide a reason that the narrator's relationship breaks down.
It's a very open-ended novel. But I recommend it.
