Viola in Reel Life is a YA novel that is very charming and clean. A reader won't find sex within its pages (how refreshing!), yet the book still manages to speak about teenage relationships in a way that I found to be very honest and true. Viola is a wise heroine who bravely handles being away from home and her parents for the first time with class and spunk. She keeps true to herself and her relationships, all the while being smart, funny, and artistic. She could be a great role model for young girls who are learning how to become their own people, separate from their parents.

Adriana Trigiani is fast becoming one of my favorite authors! I have participated in two Authors on Air shows with her (one for Very Valentine and one for Viola in Reel Life) through BookClubGirl on Blog Talk Radio. She is very personable and you can tell that she loves writing for and talking to her readers about her characters and thematic elements from her novels. I can't wait for Brava, Valentine (coming out in early 2010) and the sequel to Viola in Reel Life, which Ms. Trigiani said she is currently working on completing!
