I was already a vegetarian for 6 years before I read this book. I became a vegetarian at that time for animal welfare reasons. After reading the book, I was shocked to find out how much evidence there is to support how unnatural and unhealthy it is for humans to consume copious amounts of animal protein. The section on animal protein and osteoporosis was really shocking. Some of the facts in this book are outdated, however, since it was written in 1987 (example: we now have saturated fat content on our food labels). The studies are still valid and there is a lot to be learned from this book. I
