I have to admit that I had this 2 or 3 times from the library before I actually read it because it's such an ugly book. But I really enjoyed reading about Southern 'pioneers' but the love story is so sweet and gentle. It's not a fast paced book but the slower pace follows the time period.

Jen I just finished a book called "A Lantern in Her Hand" and I loved it too - it was sweet. Have you heard of it? I kept thinking of Hannah Fowler as I read itl.

Peggy I actually have a copy of that book, I think, from when I was in Jr High--someone gave it to me. I never did read it although I heard good things about it. I'll have to see if I can find it while I'm here in Los Gatos.
