I LOVE Robert Hellenga. This is, like his other books, masterful. One of the really great things about him is that he writes very funny passages in the midst of serious drama, comic relief if you will. Like Fall of the Sparrow, I found myself laughing out loud several times. Important characters from Fall of the Sparrow and Sixteen Pleasures meet in this book.

Chrissie I adore Hellenga! I love his mix of philosophy and humor. Some reviews say that the characters are not well developed in this novel, which sort of puts me off. On the flip side I so enjoyed the Fall of a Sparrow and the 16th Pleasure so I am thinking this just has to be good too. Did you find yourself involved with the characters, or were they flat? And if they were flat, did you still enjoy the book because Hellenga is just such a marvelous writer? What did you think of his third and fourth book?
