The library in my city marked this book as a "Mystery." The only mystery about it is why Lilian Jackson Braun's agent and editor ever allowed the book to be published. The only "crime" is never fully delineated, let alone solved. The main character's lady love goes to England on vacation and decides, with no warning, to stay. When the barn that has been his long time home burns down, Qwilleran's only comment is: "I'm only thankful that the cats are safe. . . ." "The Cat Who. . . " series has never been anything like great literature, but this book is a mess! I suppose, though, that we have to give Ms. Braun a break, since she was 92 or 93 when she was writing this book. Nevertheless. . . .
