Suzy I am somehow mysteriously drawn to reading this book. Not because I keep wanting to get something out of it that I haven't yet-I have no expectations of that. It's just for the experience of it. I can't help but think, as I read it, of the author's mind--of all his compadres' minds--intrigued by how these artists' or crazies' minds work, mindful at the same time that this took place in the 70's. Revolution time. Can't help but notice, by the way, that as I read the reviews here, MEN seem generally well-disposed toward the book, whereas women are kinda more, "Huh...?" Exactly. This book is a "man book", like Lolita, written from a very male point of view (despite the homo- and bi-sexuality--the two are not inconsistent). Books like this are hard, but interesting, for me to read (much as some "chick lit" might be for a guy? Try it!) I'll have to admit that if my son had not gifted me with it--in retribution for my giving him 200--whatever, I'm not looking it up--I probably would have given up early on it. Glad I didn't. It's not an onerous task, just, weird.
