The Lightning Thief was an enjoyable, fast-paced read with a great introduction to myth for kids! If I knew any kids around the same age as Percy, I'd definitely recommend it!

The book was introduced in a children's lit class I was enrolled in a few semesters ago. During a discussion about the syllabus, the teacher indicated that this series was to rival Harry Potter. I found her remark interesting and committed it to memory. Now, more than six months later, I remembered her words and nominated it for my book club at work (the theme this month is young adult).

I don't think I can accurately judge whether or not Percy lines up against Harry, mostly since I only read the first HP book and need to read the rest of the series to feel qualified to compare the two. Still, I really appreciated the mythological references and the incarnation of the gods in modern day. Riordan does a great job crafting his hero and the world he lives in and I can't wait to read more.
