The title grabbed me. I'd never read an McMurtry before, and had really only known him for Lonesome Dove and The Last Picture Show, both of which I had watched at some point in my life, having never read the books. But the title grabbed me and I picked it up yesterday afternoon. I finished it a little while ago pleasantly sad it was over.

I don't even want to go into my feelings about the book, or how I might identify with Danny Deck, or the problems of being a writer (or an attempted writer), but it was fun. I laughed my ass off (not gonna use that stupid acronym) through out, found the characters just large enough out of proportion for the caricature to express what McMurtry was trying to convey, and am a little sad that I read it too fast and now it's over. C'est la vie.
