There is something to be said for a book that really is unpredictable. This one kept me guessing throughout. Not so much about the outcome of the Hunger Games, because that was clear to me from the start, based on the plan for a trilogy and on what I'd heard about the second book, but about how that outcome could possibly be reached. I love fantasy books that create intricate and detailed worlds, and Collins is wonderfully creative with the unusual creatures and customs that give Panem depth. Katniss is a wonderful female character - strong and pragmatic, quick and sometimes impetuous, but also compassionate and capable of seeing her own flaws and addressing them. I can't wait to see what happens to her as she takes on the mantle the rebellion in the next book!
